Fates & Traitors

Fates & Traitors has three primary perspectives: John Wilkes Booth the actor who portrays the North by killing it’s leader. Mary Surratt the Maryland widow who moves into Washington D.C after the death of her husband.  And a young senator’s daughter who falls for the charismatic Booth, Lucy Lambert Hale.

This books give you a lot of insight to Booth’s childhood and what might have caused him to change his childhood beliefs (slavery being wrong & inhumane) to believing a Southern sympathizer that would lead to Lincoln’s death.  After reading this book it left me question… Did Mary Surratt actually play any role into Lincoln’s death or was she simply a bystander that was in the wrong place at the wrong time? And why does history make her out as a villain?  How did Booth’s family fare after his death?

If you enjoy this book provided below are some other books you might enjoy.  Also books on John Wilkes Booth & Mary Surratt, if you want to learn more about the people behind the death of Abraham Lincoln.
