Eleanor Fitt has a lot to worry about. Her brother has gone missing, her family has fallen on hard times, and her mother is determined to marry her off to any rich young man who walks by. But this is nothing compared to what she’s just read in the newspaper—

The Dead are rising in Philadelphia. And then, in a frightening attack, a zombie delivers a letter to Eleanor…from her brother.  Whoever is controlling the Dead army has taken her brother as well. If Eleanor is going to find him, she’ll have to venture into the lab of the notorious Spirit-Hunters, who protect the city from supernatural forces. But as Eleanor spends more time with the Spirit-Hunters, including their maddeningly stubborn yet handsome inventor, Daniel, the situation becomes dire. And now, not only is her reputation on the line, but her very life may hang in the balance.  via: Good Reads

MY REVIEW:  This is another book that I am not accustom to reading.  I am not a fan of the undead or walking dead.   With that in mine it still kept my interested  because it explores the social classes and society in 1876 with a threat of the undead.  It was interested in how the author turn a common practice in early times where they would place a bell near a grave.  It was not unheard of someone being buried a live.  It was thought of by placing a string in the hands of your love one that is connected to a bell outside the grave  so if grandma or your niece woke up they could ring it and someone outside could dig them up.  Instead within the authors plot the bells warns the living of the walking dead.  The dead are being controlled by a powerful necromancer, the story is around finding who this is and how to stop them.

As the pieces began to be clearer I began to solve the mystery before the characters discover the mystery and the plot unfolds.  The only complaint I have is it is unclear to what Eleanor’s purpose is especially at the end because her image in high society is ruined and anyone that was close to her is either dead or not talking to her.  She has lost everyone and know she has to reestablish her self.  I have mix feeling rather I would suggest this novel/series or not.
